My name is Stephen Moore, and as a Winter Hill School parent, I want to share why I believe in Mayor Katjan Ballantyne’s leadership.
When the Winter Hill school faced unexpected issues, both my children's school years were interrupted. They missed only four days of the term that was interrupted by the school closure, thanks to decisive leadership, and were relocated to a good, interim location almost immediately.
The urgency and informed decision-making on the part of the mayor, were remarkable; within hours, a plan was in motion, leading to the WHCIS being fully operational in just six weeks at a newly repurposed location in Edgerly Education Center.
I'll never forget bringing my kids to the Edgerly on that first day, hearing an NPR report about Boston schools not opening due to maintenance and a scorching summer, and thinking how quickly Katjana’s leadership got our kids back on track without missing a day of the next term. This demonstrates the balance I continue to admire and support in Katjana: a commitment to thoughtful deliberation for informed decisions, coupled with the confidence to act decisively when needed. I am voting for Katjana because she is a proven leader at a time when proven leadership is exactly what Somerville needs most.
