Combating Climate Change
To restore our urban ecosystem, Mayor Katjana
- Raised our climate goals from targeting just Net Zero—to be Carbon Negative by 2050
- Implemented an historic, first ever Pollinator Action Plan for an urban ecosystem, expanding our environmental stewardship to the smallest of creatures, like butterflies and honeybees.
- Opened or expanded four public green spaces and broke ground on the Dilboy Athletic Auxiliary Fields and a new pocket park at 217 Somerville Ave
- Planted more than 1,300 new trees, following our native species ordinance, (which I proposed as a councilor)
- Directed our Office of Sustainability and Environment (OSE) to implement networked geothermal in Somerville, to decarbonize heating and cooling of our buildings
