Somerville passes first-of-its-kind native plants ordinance
Local advocacy group Green & Open Somerville has been collaborating with Ward 7 City Councilor Katjana Ballantyne to author the ordinance. “The native species [ordinance] is the first of its kind in the country,” said Ballantyne. “It sets percentage minimum limits on native species, we know that we’re in a biodiversity crisis – a climate crisis – now, and there was three years of work to get to this point, I’m really proud.”
