Somerville has hired the health center and research organization Fenway Health to help the city prepare to open a supervised consumption site later this year. Fenway Health has two tasks: to help Somerville choose a location and to figure out how the site, which would be the first of its kind in Massachusetts, would work.
"The pandemic has only heightened the need for services that help people who use drugs and prevent deaths,” said Somerville Mayor Katjana Ballantyne, in a statement. “There is an urgency to this work, but we also want to make sure we get it right and find a way to address racial and gender disparities that can exist in our institutions."
