International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local No. 2222, Endorse Katjana for Mayor
Says she “shares our values and champions our ideals”
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local No. 2222 has endorsed City Councilor Katjana Ballantyne to be the next Mayor of Somerville.
Brendan Keogh, chairman of the local’s Committee on Political Education, noted that its members are dealing with workforce decline due, in part, to employers prioritizing “shareholders profit and executive compensation at the expense of consumers and workers.” As a result, he said, the union “unanimously agreed that we must endorse a candidate that not only understands our issues but shares our values and champions our ideals.”
Ballantyne, whose extensive career in public and private service has focused on issues like affordable housing, combatting climate change, improving public safety, and fighting for inclusion and equity, said, “I’m proud to receive the endorsement by Local 2222. Organized labor is an important partner in improving our city, making it a place where everyone can thrive.”
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local No. 2222 is affiliated with the AFL-CIO. They join Teamsters Local Union No. 25, Somerville Fire Fighters Local 76, the Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts, and the International Association of Heat & Frost Insulators and Allied Workers Union Local 6 in supporting Ballantyne for Mayor of Somerville.
